Reem Mall Marks Second Anniversary as Landmark Abu Dhabi Retail and Leisure Destination

Milestone celebrates two years since the destination’s completion

Reem Mall is marking its second anniversary, celebrating two years since the completion of one of Abu Dhabi’s major contemporary retail, leisure and entertainment destinations and a project that Dewan Architects + Engineers played a key role in bringing to life. Located on Reem Island, the 598,000-square-metre development has become an established part of the capital’s retail and leisure landscape, bringing together more than 400 retail, dining and entertainment destinations within an integrated environment designed for residents and visitors. Dewan served as Lead Architect from Schematic Design through to Issued for Construction documentation, working from the original concept developed by CRTKL. The practice subsequently continued its involvement through construction supervision and project completion, supporting Reem Mall across the major stages of its design development and delivery.

This long-term role included leading the architectural coordination and technical development required to translate the original design vision into a complex, large-scale built destination. Dewan also coordinated the integration of the mall’s varied retail, dining, leisure and entertainment components while maintaining continuity between design intent and final execution. Among Reem Mall’s defining attractions is Snow Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s largest indoor snow parks. Featuring 20 rides and attractions within an immersive snow-covered environment, it has helped establish the mall as a year-round entertainment destination extending beyond the traditional retail experience. Two years after completion, Reem Mall’s anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey from design development to delivery and, more importantly, to see the destination fulfilling its intended role as an active part of everyday life in Abu Dhabi. For Dewan, the milestone also celebrates the collective effort behind delivering a project of this scale and complexity and the rewarding experience of seeing the spaces created now being used, experienced and enjoyed by the community.
