Overview
Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville is a five-star luxury hotel overlooking the Congo River in the heart of the Republic of the Congo's capital. Designed by Dewan Architects + Engineers, the development introduces a contemporary hospitality destination that combines international luxury standards with a strong connection to its prominent riverfront setting. The hotel features 197 rooms and suites, five restaurants and bars, a rooftop lounge, a full-service spa, and extensive meeting and event facilities, creating a new destination for business and leisure travellers in Central Africa.
Dewan Architects + Engineers served as Lead Design Consultant, developing the architectural vision for a hotel that responds directly to its riverfront location. Working alongside an international consultant team, the practice delivered a design that balances contemporary hospitality with a strong sense of place, creating a landmark destination that strengthens Brazzaville's growing tourism and business infrastructure.

Project Vision
The vision for Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville was to create a luxury riverfront hotel that celebrates one of Central Africa's defining natural landscapes while contributing to the city's emergence as a destination for international business, diplomacy, and tourism. Rather than competing with its surroundings, the architecture embraces the Congo River as the project's defining feature, orientating guest accommodation, public spaces, restaurants, and leisure facilities towards panoramic waterfront views while creating a seamless dialogue between the building and its setting.

Design Response
The architectural design is organised around the hotel's relationship with the Congo River, positioning guest rooms, suites, and public spaces to maximise uninterrupted views across the waterfront. A carefully choreographed arrival sequence leads guests through generous lobby spaces towards the river, reinforcing a strong visual connection between the architecture and the surrounding landscape.
The lower podium accommodates leisure facilities overlooking the waterfront, while restaurants, bars, landscaped gardens, wellness facilities, and meeting spaces are integrated into a cohesive hospitality environment. The building's simple, compact geometry maximises the available floor area while allowing flexibility for future expansion, with glass-fronted façades and projecting balconies strengthening the relationship between interior spaces and the river beyond.
Key design strategies included:
- Orientating the hotel to maximise panoramic views of the Congo River
- Integrating hospitality, wellness, dining, and event facilities within a unified architectural concept
- Creating a clear visual relationship between interior spaces and the riverfront
- Designing efficient floorplates that optimise guest accommodation and operational functionality
- Establishing a contemporary hospitality destination that responds to Brazzaville's evolving urban context

Experience of Place
The experience of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville is defined by its connection to the Congo River. From arrival through to the guestrooms, restaurants, and rooftop lounge, the surrounding landscape becomes an integral part of the guest experience. Generous glazing, balconies, landscaped terraces, and outdoor leisure areas strengthen the relationship between the hotel and the waterfront, while carefully framed views ensure the river remains a constant presence throughout the building. The result is a hospitality destination that feels intrinsically connected to its setting while offering contemporary luxury for business and leisure travellers alike.
